Surrounded by the great wines of Burgundy, the Château de Gilly, former residence of the Cistercian Monks, is located two minutes from the famous village of Vougeot at the heart of the finest vineyards (Grands Crus), halfway between Dijon and Beaune. On the Burgundy Fine Wine Circuit, near the Clos Vougeot Castle, the amazing 14th and 16th century dwelling is a wonderful destination for lovers of famous French cuisine, wine, architecture, and history.
With its moats, the river, its French-style gardens and magnificent vaulted dining room, the Château, which has witnessed some of the most turbulent moments in European history, has lost none of its authenticity. After several attacks during the Hundred Years’ War, it was rebuilt in the 16th century by the Abbot of Cîteaux, and remained a private residence until the French Revolution.
Today this jewel of a hotel welcomes guests in an ambience of refined luxury. Suits of armour, drawing rooms with fireplace and painted ceilings, and stunning gardens that rival the châteaux of the Loire make any stay at the Castle Hotel truly memorable. The 48 rooms and Junior suites, most of them facing the garden, have been individually appointed to harmonize old-world charm and the latest in 21st century comforts.
Leisure facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, billiards, and, not forgetting, wine tasting with no less than 15,000 bottles aging in the cellars!
Le Clos Prieur, the gastronomic restaurant located in the superb rib-vaulted cellar, where the monks kept casks and barrels filled with fine Clos de Vougeot wine, completes the experience of total luxury, whilst the Côté Terroirs, housed in a charming tasting cellar, is perfect for light lunches in a mood of relaxed friendliness. The shaded, flower filled terrace surrounded by gardens with aromatic herbs replaces the Côté Terroir restaurant in the summer.

His Opinion: Très belle bâtisse historique. Nous avons été très bien accueillis par un personnel souriant et à l’écoute. La chambre spacieuse avec vue sur le jardin correspondait à nos attentes. Deux petites remarques : nous avons été surpris que le lit soit réalisé sans drap mais muni d’une couette; et la salle de bain un peu vieillissante. Le petit déjeuner était excellent avec un personnel aux soins de ses clients. Nous avons eu un grand plaisir à séjourner dans ce château.

His Opinion: Accueil chaleureux et à l'écoute, chateau et alentours magnifiques, calme, aéré, verdure, très bonne table dans un décors magnifique, excellente position pour faire du vélo dans la région (route des vignes, voie bleue ou verte), une vraie découverte!
