The enchanting new “Sant’Angelo Luxury Resort” is situated in Matera, in the city of “Rocks”, the fascinating ancient neighbourhoods, an example of urban structure which is unique in the world and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The hotel is situated right in the rocky stone formation and is the result of expert preservation work of an area of more than 1,400 square metres which encompasses grotto-houses, alleys, steps, courtyards.
The Sant’Angelo offers its guests a special and unforgettable stay in 16 historical residences or grotto-houses which have been faithfully reproduced with various rooms and lounge corner. These grotto-houses are terraced, overlooking open widenings and little squares, in the typical ‘neighbouring’ formation, or distributed on different levels and connected by steps and small balconies, respecting the structural characteristics of the ‘hypogeal-houses’, with the fronts in tufa-stone and the backs excavated into the rock.
All the comfortable residences have spectacular views over this unique city of art, the
city of 100 or more rocky churches and with local knowledge which is held to be among the most ancient in the world for the continuity of man’s presence on this site from the Paleolithic era to today.
A warm and welcoming restaurant in rustic surroundings where you can enjoy Lucano (Lucania area) gastronomic specialities, two bars, panoramic terraces, an art gallery and congress organisation service with the most advanced technological equipment, are other strong points of this extraordinary structure of great historical value.
The closeness of the Ionian beaches, with the archaeological sites of Metaponto and Policoro, and various splendid parks, such as the Bosco Pantano WWF natural oasis, Pollino National Park, or the Murgia Materana Park, offer a multitude of possibilities for discovering nature and the culture of this fascinating region.

His Opinion: Overall good but we had problems with AC in the room. The singer didn't fit the very nice and romantic restaurant (too loud, not "jazzy" enough). Bar was closed during afternoon.
